That’s Right, Bold & Beautiful Is Doing Taylor Wrong Again — Why Do They Hate the Shrink So Much?
That’s Right, Bold & Beautiful Is Doing Taylor Wrong Again — Why Do They Hate the Shrink So Much?
When it comes to Bold & Beautiful‘s Taylor, there’s one thing I rarely do, which is agree with anything coming out of Ridge’s mouth regarding his ex. But danged if lately, he hasn’t been 100 percent right.Because the sheer incredulity written across his face while addressing her romance with Deacon has been etched upon ours, as well. And the whole mess has left us with one burning question: Why do the writers hate poor Taylor so much?
There’s a contingent of fans who have long disliked the character and, honestly, it’s kinda easy to see why. I have always loved Taylor, but objectively, it ain’t easy. Why? Because quite honestly, the writers have long treated her like a woman physically incapable of making a smart decision.
This isn’t a new development by any stretch of the imagination. (Three words: ‘‘Man and… horse?” #IYKYK)
It would be simple enough to list the grievances that unfolded when Taylor and Brooke were competing over Ridge, who has repeatedly proven himself unworthy of either. But it really seemed as if Taylor might finally have come to her senses — if only by force — following the “destiny”-bound couple’s latest reunion and instamarriage. (Don’t get me started!)
But then Deacon crossed her doorstep and the next thing we knew, Taylor had once again tossed sense out the window in order to throw herself into his arms.
Now I will freely admit there was a time that I was majorly shipping a Taylor/Deacon romance. At the time, Krista Allen was playing the shrink, and she shared several fun scenes with anti-Ridge Deacon. Not only did the pair have great chemistry, but — and this is a very important “but” — he had not yet tied himself to the nine eight-toed wonder.
There is so much wrong with the Taylor/Deacon pairing that it defies all logic. But worst of all, it does still more damage to her character. Taylor’s refusal to see Ridge for the manipulative player he is already gave fans (or detractors) a reason to laugh each time she was referred to as a World Renowned Psychiatrist. Who, they wondered, would turn to this woman for advice given her own track record?
But to have her even consider getting involved with Deacon? No. Just… no. I get that for ages now, we’ve been told that Sheila is now a Daddy-loving, pizza-slinging, forgiveness-advocating woman. The writers would have us believe that these days, her biggest sin is wearing open-toed shoes despite her missing digits.
Taylor, however, knows better than anyone just how dangerous Deacon’s wife is. After all — wait, let me speak directly to our distressed damsel for a moment.
Taylor, hon, are you listening? Sheila killed you. Sure, it didn’t take, but that’s a story for another day. She also shot your daughter. And her own son. And Ridge’s mom. Need I go on?
When Steffy was begging Finn to stay away from his mom, Taylor was right by her side, nodding along with encouragement as everyone spoke of how dangerous Sheila was. What, exactly, has changed? Sure, Deacon’s cute, but he ain’t “lose your medical license and put your loved ones in danger” cute!
As of last week, Deacon and Taylor had each realized that they couldn’t be together. But you and I both know that they’ll be giving in to their undeniable — if rather instant and unfounded — love quicker than newlyweds Carter and Daphne will be returned to the back burner.
I want better for Taylor. And as long as Sheila’s alive and breathing, that ain’t gonna be Deacon.
