Holly and Maggie are catching up at home, talking about Doug stealing the necklace back for Julie, and the two reaching a better place. Holly has to run, though, and meet Tate for lunch. Maggie’s mourning for Tate and Sophia after the tough decision giving up the baby when Sarah walks in, looking uncomfortable.

She jumps in, mentioning Brady telling her about what happened and wanting to know why Sophia was in Chicago so close to her due date. Yeah, Holly feels bad for Tate not getting to meet his baby, and Sarah just makes a face. Holly runs out — with Maggie making sure her granddaughter texts her when she gets to the pub!

Sarah’s sorry Maggie cut her trip short, but Ari and Holly getting kidnapped will ruin any vacation. Maggie asks about Victoria, and Sarah says they worked out shared custody — but that means she and Xander are getting separated. It hurts. She knows their marriage couldn’t keep going, but… a part of her feels free.

Does Amy Know Something’s Wrong?

At the pub, Tate messages Sophia to see if she heard from the adoptive parents or got any more pics. Sophia’s curled up on her bed, sees the message and murmurs, “Please let this go, Tate. For both of our sakes.” Amy comes in wanting to know why her daughter’s still in bed. She’s not pregnant anymore, so get over it and get moving.

That’s when she lets slip how furious she is with Sophia for “gallivanting” off to Chicago and giving away the baby. Neither of her parents or Tate got to see or hold the baby. “What about me, mom?” Doesn’t she realize how hard this was on Sophia? It’s hard enough without being berated for not handling it how her mom wanted. “This is my life.”

Amy looks thoughtful, then sits on the bed and apologizes for making it about her. Her heart’s aching knowing that Sophia’s is broken. But that feeling of love that Sophia has in heart for her child never goes away. “It’s exactly how I still feel about you.” Sophia starts crying and hugs her mom.

She pulls back after a bit and says the thought of her baby being raised by good people who want her is what’s helping her heal. Amy’s worried about her, though, staying in her room, then feels her forehead and realizes her daughter has a fever. “I knew that hospital discharged you too soon.” She wants to take her to get checked. Sophia tries protesting, but Amy won’t hear it. They’re going to the hospital, period.

Can EJ and Belle Survive the Trial?

Johnny’s ticked with EJ in the courtroom for going after Grandpa Roman like that, but his dad insists it was necessary to establish that lots of people had motives. EJ tells him to trust him, and Johnny just says he has to go meet Chanel. “You’re welcome,” EJ says to no one after he’s gone.

Belle walks over to let EJ know he did a good job today, but he just starts yelling at her for her opening statement attacking Johnny. He has a job to do, she snaps back. So does she. “Johnny is your flesh and blood,” he yells. “How can you be so callous?”

Belle fires back that she tried getting off the trial, but EJ went and interfered. “This is what a fair trial looks like, EJ!” She’s watched too closely, this is what she has to do. EJ shuts up fast, then tries apologizing as Belle storms out. He never should have questioned Belle’s loyalty to her family, especially after losing John.

But when he tries offering comfort, she just holds up her hands and says they can’t until the trial is over.

Tate and Johnny Run Into Each Other

Chanel and Paulina meet for lunch in the square, both eager for the trial to be over. So long as EJ doesn’t end it by pinning the crime on Chanel, Paulina says. If it casts doubt on Belle’s case, Chanel’s fine with it. Paulina’s still worried, but Johnny shows up before she can go off too much.

He fills Chanel in on all that happened, from Roman getting attacked to Aunt Belle going hard after him. Johnny and Chanel go to have lunch in the pub, and Paulina bows out to give them time together. She’s praying for all of us, she says.

Holly joins Tate at the pub, where he says he heard that Doug left, and he’s so glad she’s OK. They sit and she hopes Tate gets his money back from the cops soon. He doesn’t care. She’s more important. But Holly tells him she doesn’t deserve his niceness — especially since it’s her fault he missed his baby being born.

No, it’s not, Tate tells her. He was where he needed to be. No regrets. Though he is sorry that he can’t watch his baby here in Salem. But that’s Johnny’s fault for backing out. That’s Johnny and Chanel’s cue to walk up behind them.

Tate hears things went well in court, and when Johnny laments Grandpa Roman getting grilled, Tate says he didn’t seem shook up. Roman just wants whatever helps Johnny. They then talk haltingly about the baby and her being with her new parents, and how happy they are Holly is back and OK.

Chanel and Johnny awkwardly dismiss themselves and grab a table after some more uncomfortable small talk. They’re both sorry to hear what Tate’s been through. But they’re all in a good place and Chanel won’t rest until Johnny’s free. Now, how about they head home and she helps him forget all about this?

Holly Tells Tate She’s Staying

Holly checks on how Tate is, and he says he made peace with Johnny. Also, with Johnny on trial, it’s probably for the best, Holly says. And the DiMeras always mess up everything. “You’re not totally wrong,” Tate admits. But this isn’t how he thought things would turn out. He checks his phone and worries over Sophia’s lack of response.

He’s still upset over being left out of the adoption. Holly understands, but also understands Sophia. Maybe give her time and space. They both have a right to their feelings. She’s being so great, Tate’s sad she’ll have to leave soon for France. Maybe not. Holly decided not to go.

France wasn’t quite the big dream she pretended. She can stay here and go to Salem U. Plus, Tate’s here. They both agree they love each other and this is great news.

EJ and Belle Get a Talking To

EJ wastes no time in fixing a drink back home, which Susan notes as she walks into the living room. She’s got a bone to pick with him. He woke up and claimed to be a better person, then that kinder, gentler version “flew the coop in no time!” EJ says he’s fighting for Johnny’s sake. He’s innocent. No kidding! Neither EJ nor Chanel shot him, Susan yells.

He knows Chanel didn’t do it, she says. And, eventually the truth will come out about whatever he did to make Johnny look innocent.

Belle greets Paulina at her table in the square. Belle was looking for her — to resign as DA. No can do, Paulina letting her step down would make the mayor look like she’s trying to affect the trial. Paulina wishes she could get Belle off the case, but it’s too late. Plus, she’s all too happy if this case tanks Belle’s relationship with EJ. Belle rolls her eyes, but agrees to stay on the case for Johnny’s sake.

Sarah Knows Sophia’s Lying

Sarah checks Sophia out in the hospital and says there’s no sign of infection, but her uterus is contracted more than she’d expect in someone who just gave birth. “That’s a good thing, right?” Sarah just jumps into asking her about the baby’s sex, and Sophia freezes.

“Whatever you think you know, you can’t say anything to anyone,” Sophia eventually tells Sarah. Yes, but there are limits. Is her baby in danger? That supersedes doctor/patient confidentiality. “He’s safe,” Sophia says, “that’s all you need to know.” Sarah gently tells the teen she needs to know more or she has to report it.

In the Show’s Final Moments

Sophia’s filled Sarah in offscreen, wrapping just before Amy enters to check on her daughter. Sarah looks like a deer in headlights, then says Sophia just needs rest. And if the teen wants to come back, even just to talk, she can return at any time. “I’ll be fine,” Sophia says. “Thanks.”

EJ tries walking away from Susan, who yells at him for trying to dismiss her. “Some days you sound just like your —” She looks at Stefano’s portrait and starts freaking out. “I feel your daddy’s presence very strongly!” He’s there right now.
