And with that, Javi has left the building! Well, the town. He got to attend Trey’s christening on Days of Our Lives before catching a plane back home to take care of his dad after he gets quadruple bypass surgery. Not double, not triple, but quadruple. In other words, the show and Javi are making clear that this could be a long road to recovery, and it could keep Leo’s almost-husband away for some time.
Honestly, with how frustrating he’s been lately, we could use a break. Ever since Dimitri came back (probably thanks to Gwen), Javi has done just about everything but physically push Leo back into his ex’s arms. Maybe some time away will give him the chance to think a bit clearer and listen to Leo’s steady insistence that he wants to be with Javi. Or maybe he did too much damage and by the time he comes back, Leo really will be back in Dimitri’s arms.
That’s tough to say. But one thing we do know: Javi will be back. Because while it’s true that behind the scenes, Al Calderon has left Days of Our Lives, Javi hasn’t. We learned back in July that Calderon was joining Brilliant Minds, then shortly after, got the news that he was leaving the Peacock soap. But we also learned that Days of Our Lives was reportedly re-casting Javi with someone new.
And while we could be forgiven for thinking this absence might be the break between Javi’s, the timing just doesn’t work out. Because Days of Our Lives shoots so far in advance, Calderon’s last scenes won’t air until well in May. In other words, both Javi and Calderon’s version of him will both be back. It’s just tough to tell whether Leo will still be waiting for him when he is!
