Vanessa Is Publicly Ripped to Shreds — Plus, Kat’s News Goes Over Like a Lead Balloon!

Many of our locals have gathered at Uptown to celebrate the opening of the free clinic. Vanessa is thrilled to have both her children in attendance, but Deanna — clearly picking up on the vibes between Joey and her mom — is chilly toward the casino owner. Vanessa and Joey aren’t exactly discrete, sharing a kiss right outside the bar. And sure enough, things get downright scandalous when Deanna loudly asks her mom how long she’s been screwing Joey!
As everyone watches, Deanna rips into her mom. (Anybody else notice the looks of shock on the face of the various extras scattered around Uptown?) Donnell does his best to convince his twin to back down, but Deanna is having none of it, storming out as a devastated Vanessa is rocked by tears.
Donnell Tries Helping His Sis
In the aftermath, Nicole tries comforting Vanessa. Kial opens up, sharing what he and his children went through after the death of his wife. And across town, Donnell joins his sister at Orphey Gene’s and tries getting her to see things through their mom’s eyes. “You’re not the only one who’s been hurting,” he says, adding that he talked to their mom and spent time with Joey to try and understand the situation.
But Deanna says nothing could make her feel differently. “I’m choosing to honor his memory instead of pretending like he never existed.” While Donnell admits he wouldn’t have picked Joey, the guy makes their mom happy. He also says that moving on isn’t the same as letting go of their dad or his memory.
Vanessa Wants More From Joey
Vanessa goes to see Joey at the casino, slamming a drink and suggesting he crow “I told you so.” She shares that “angry doesn’t begin to describe it, [Deanna] was enraged.” Vanessa then tells Joey that she realized how little she knows him, and that it’s time for him to open up to her. If they’re going to have a chance at being together, she wants to know who he really is!
Kat Shares Her News
Kat gets together with Tomas and Chelsea to tell them about her plans to live with Anita and Vernon. Tomas worries that the grans won’t want him sleeping over, but Kat insists nothing will change between them. Things get heated when Kat accuses Tomas of only worrying about how this will impact him. In turn, he suggests this is another example of her switching lanes without thinking things through. He’s also justifiably upset that she didn’t discuss this decision with him. Kat recognizes that she didn’t handle the situation well and apologizes, which earns her not only Tomas’ understanding but a kiss.
In The Final Moments
Leslie admits to Eva that she doesn’t actually remember her speech. Why? She was terrified. Having recorded it, Eva plays the moment back to her mom and we get to hear just how genuine Leslie was in discussing the importance of the clinic. Meanwhile, Kial admits to wishing he’d had someone like Nicole around to help him process his wife’s grief. Off this conversation, they head to the bedroom.
